Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about cervical cancer, diagnosis, treatment options, appointments, and ongoing care. Our FAQs are designed to help you make informed decisions with confidence.
-
Is an abnormal smear test cancer?
No. Most abnormal smear test results do not mean you have cervical cancer. They usually indicate changes in cervical cells or the presence of HPV that may require further investigation. A specialist assessment can determine whether treatment or monitoring is needed.
-
Do I need a colposcopy?
A colposcopy may be recommended if you have an abnormal smear test, a positive HPV result, or symptoms that require further evaluation. This simple procedure allows a specialist to examine the cervix more closely and identify any abnormal changes.
-
Can cervical cancer be treated while preserving fertility?
In selected cases, fertility-preserving treatments may be available, particularly when cervical cancer is diagnosed at an early stage. Your specialist will assess your individual circumstances and discuss suitable options that balance effective treatment with future family planning goals.
-
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We understand the importance of timely assessment and aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible. Availability may vary, but our team will work to arrange a consultation promptly and guide you through the next steps.
-
What happens during a consultation?
Your consultation will include a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and any previous test results. A specialist examination may be performed if appropriate, followed by clear recommendations regarding further investigations, treatment options, or ongoing monitoring.
